  • What We Believe | Refuge Church

What We Believe... The Son Jesus Christ. Completely human, yet completely God. Jesus is the only way and plan for people to be brought back into a right relationship with God. He was born of a virgin birth, lived a perfect life, and was the perfect sacrifice for our sins. He was buried, resurrected, and lives today. Isaiah 7:14 ; Matthew 1:18-23, 3:17, 28:5-6 ; Luke 22:70 ; John 1:1 ; Acts 1:9 ; Romans 1:3-4, 8:1-3, 10:4 ; 1 Corinthians 8:6 ; Philippians 2:5-11 ; 1 Timothy 2:5-6, 3:16 The Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit guides us in our everyday walk with God. He exalts God and the truth. He convicts people of their sin, comforts us and helps to sanctify us to overcome our obstacles to become more like Christ. The Holy Spirit is promised to all believers, subsequent to salvation, for the gifts and power to be witnesses and anointed workers for God. Genesis 1:2 ; Isaiah 61:1-3 ; Joel 2:28-32 ; Mark 1:10 ; Luke 1:35, 11:13 ; John 15:26, 16:7-14 ; Acts 1:8, 2:1-4, 13:2 ; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 14:14-15 ; Galatians 5:22-23 ; Ephesians 1:13-14 ; 1 Thessalonians 4:3 ; 2 Peter 1:21, 3:18 ; Revelation 22:17 The Bible The Bible is God's Holy Word to all People. Written by human authors under the divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It is God's very word, therefore it is truth, without any error and relevant to our lives. Deuteronomy 4:1-2 ; Isaiah 40:8 ; 2 Timothy 3:15-17 ; 1 Peter 1:25 ; 2 Peter 1:20-21 ; 2 Peter 3:16 ; Revelation 22:18-19 Eternity Man will exist forever. He will exist either eternally separated from God by sin or in unity with God through salvation. The punishment for sin is Hell. The gift of God through salvation is a union with Him in Heaven. Heaven and Hell are real, and are eternal places for existence. John 3:16 ; Romans 6:23 ; 1 John 2:25 ; Revelation 20:15 God Created Man Man was created by God, in the image of God. Man was created to have fellowship with God but became separated from God through disobedience, Sin. Man cannot get back to a right relationship with God except through the forgiveness and salvation through Jesus Christ. Genesis 1:26-30, 2:7, 18-22 ; 3 ; Isaiah 6:5 ; Jeremiah 17:5 ; Acts 17:26-31 ; Romans 1:19-32 ; 1 Corinthians 1:21-31, 15:19 ; Ephesians 2 ; Colossians 1:21-23 Salvation We believe in Salvation, and the only way to restore a relationship with God is through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross for the forgiveness of sin. By placing faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as payment for sin we are saved. There is nothing we can do to be saved other than through Jesus Christ. Genesis 1:26-30, 2:7, 18-22, and 3 ; Isaiah 6:5 ; Jeremiah 17:5 ; Acts 17:26-31 ; Romans 1:19-32 ; 1 Corinthians 1:21-31, 15:19 ; Ephesians 2 ; Colossians 1:21-23 The Church The Church is made up of God's children, the believers. It is a community of saved believers in Christ. It fulfills Gods commandments and teachings to spread the Gospel of Christ to the world. Matthew 16:18-19, 18:15-20 ; Acts 2:41-47, 14:23, 16:5, 20:28 ; 1 Corinthians 7:17, 9:13-14, 12 ; Ephesians1:22-23, 2:19-22 ; Colossians 1:18, 3:15 ; 1 Timothy 4:14 ; 1 Peter 5:1-4 ; Revelation 21:2-3 Our Mission Welcome to REFUGE Church, where our doors are wide open to people from all backgrounds. What visitors usually notice first is the friendly atmosphere, free of judgement. Our mission is to be a hospital for those that are hurting, need deliverance, or someone to walk beside them on this journey. We embrace and love the person, and help guide their steps towards the saving Grace of Jesus Christ that can set them free from the bondages of their sin, guilt, shame, unforgiveness, addictions, past hurts etc… Together, we’re striving to become the kind of church described in the Bible—a church with relevant teaching, heart-felt worship, honest friendships, constant prayer, and compassionate care for those in need. In short, we’d like to have the kind of contagious Christianity that can influence and encourage the entire community, one life at a time. Our size has benefits: we’re big enough for you to blend in and investigate the claims of Jesus Christ anonymously, if you choose to. Or you can dive into authentic relationships with others by connecting with our people through our LifeGroups and other ministries available for the family. So whether you’re a spiritual seeker who’s just starting to ask questions about God, or a committed Christian who wants to sink the roots of your faith even deeper, you can find a home here at REFUGE Church . You’ll find that this is a place where you really matter—because you matter to God. ~ Pastor Randy ~

Their leaves prosper in all they do." ~ Psalm 1:2-3 ~ The Women's ministry leader is Becky Ham. Becky has been married to her high school sweetheart Jamie for 20 years. She and her husband reside in Delco where they are raising their 2 teenage children. Becky is a graduate of UNC Wilmington with a Master’s in Elementary Education. She has worked in the Columbus County School System for 20 Years. Becky has served in various areas of ministry over the last 30 years including young adults, teens and children's ministry. She never meets a stranger and loves serving Jesus. Her favorite thing to do is spend time with her family. "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. " PROVERBS 27:17 Rooted in the wisdom of Proverbs 27:17, the Forged Men’s Ministry at REFUGE Church is dedicated to empowering men from every walk of life to flourish in their faith, health, and connections. We are anchored by four core pillars: Fellowship, Friendship, Discipleship, and Personal Growth. Our mission is to build a brotherhood where men challenge and support one another, fostering deep accountability and spiritual maturity through God’s Word. We believe in strengthening our community well beyond the church sanctuary, which is why we offer vibrant opportunities to connect—from monthly breakfast gatherings and Bible studies to adventure-filled outings like fishing, hiking, and camping. Whether it’s a friendly chili cook-off or a local fish fry, there is a place for you to belong and grow here. Check back often for our latest event updates. cgcforgedmensministry@gmail.com Refuge Youth Ministries THE REFUGE High School Youth Ministry We believe that the youth are more than just a part of the church; they are the future of the church! Our goal is to equip them with the tools, backed in scripture, they’ll need to navigate their high school years and into adulthood. To be there for them and lift them up through any struggles and trials they may face. We continue to cary the “Oak Tree” trademark. This symbolizes when one in our group is down or having a hard time, our strength together, and deep roots in Christ, gets us through the hard times. The MESSENGERS Youth Praise Team Hearing the youth sing for the Lord is such a blessing. The youth have such a heart for the Lord and it shines forth in all that they do. They are always eager to welcome any newcomers. We love all, as Christ loves us! MOUNTAIN MOVERS Middle School Youth Ministry Middle school is a really difficult time in our children’s life. Kids are transitioning from being a child to teenhood. A time when they are finding out who they are and who their true friends are. Sometimes this season can be really eye opening and not pretty. At REFUGE Church, we thrive to build authentic relationships among our young people and encourage them to ask themselves the age old questions; “What would Jesus do?” when responding to situations. REFUGE Kids (Nursery - 3rd) My name is Anna Ham and I am currently the leader of REFUGE Kids here at REFUGE Church. My passion for children's ministry started when I first began helping my mom in children's church around the age of twelve. I grew up helping multiple Sundays a month and really grew a love for children. I learned so much about children's ministry by watching my mom teach and take care of kids for many years, which inspired me to follow in her footsteps. Over time, my love for serving and spreading the gospel grew, specifically for young children. A big part of my love for ministering to kids also comes from my own story. I gave my life to Christ at the young age of 4 after learning about Him in preschool, which is a moment that changed my life forever. I know firsthand how powerful it is to encounter God at such a young age and I believe God can begin a work in anyone no matter their age! In 2023, God put it on my heart to start serving here at REFUGE in children's ministry and then in 2024, God placed it on my heart to take a leadership role in REFUGE Kids. I knew I couldn't do it alone, so I asked my mom to be my support and help and guide me along the way. I feel confident that this is where God has called me to serve in the church and that He has specifically given me this gift to work with children. It has been amazing to watch these kids learn and grow in Christ and I can't wait to see how He will continue to grow and use each of them!

  • Arise and Build | Refuge Church

Praying through... Ground-breaking day! Along comes the Refuge Christian Academy... What Drives Us... Our Purpose & Principles REFUGE CHURCH ---------------- REFUGE Church has been blessed with a rich legacy of loving, serving, and ministering to our community for many years. It is our great joy to see our campus filled consistently throughout the week as we pour into the lives of individuals and families across Pender County. Our heart’s desire is to prepare the way of the Lord by creating a place where people can encounter the presence of God, grow in faith, and experience authentic Christian fellowship. While REFUGE Christian Academy plays a vital role in the ministry of REFUGE Church, it is only one part of the incredible growth God has brought to our church family. Our children’s ministries and youth ministries are thriving and passionately pursuing the Lord, and our Sunday services are quickly approaching full capacity. We long to cultivate an environment where families can worship together, build meaningful relationships, and truly do life together in Christ. We are deeply humbled and honored that God has brought us into a season of overflow. As the ministry continues to expand, so does the need for additional space to serve our growing congregation and community effectively. Through our Arise and Build campaign, we are preparing for the future with faith and expectation, creating room for generations to come to encounter Jesus and participate in the building of God’s Kingdom. REFUGE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY ---------------- Seven years ago marked the beginning of REFUGE Christian Academy, a vision birthed through the leading of the Holy Spirit to provide a Christ-centered alternative to public education within our rural community. As the only private Christian school in our area, God has blessed this ministry beyond what we could have imagined, allowing us to grow from just seventeen students to nearly one hundred fifty over the past six years. At REFUGE Christian Academy, our mission is to place God at the center of everything we do, including every aspect of education and academic development. We are committed to nurturing each student individually, recognizing that every child learns uniquely and thrives at their own pace. Through intentional, faith-based instruction and genuine care for every student, we strive to cultivate both academic excellence and spiritual growth. Because of the tremendous support from families and the continued blessings of God upon this ministry, REFUGE Christian Academy has now reached full capacity and is in need of a larger space. Expanding our facilities will allow us to continue reaching the hearts of children with the love and truth of Christ while equipping future generations to walk boldly in their God-given purpose and help advance His Kingdom for years to come. Arise and Build Arise and Build What is the Arise and Build campaign? The Arise and Build campaign is the name of the building project for REFUGE Church and Refuge Christian Academy’s future facility. Many people are joining hearts to Build God’s Kingdom Together as we offer back what already belongs to God! Will you join us? Our Vision and Goals Our vision for REFUGE Church and REFUGE Christian Academy is to build a loving, welcoming space that leads to spiritual growth, builds enduring relationships, and serves as a lighthouse in Pender County to show God’s love while expanding His Kingdom. In the next three years or less, we aim to raise 3 million dollars to pay for our new building. With your help and God’s provision, we are confident that we will meet this goal. "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
